Helping God write your story

There is no better place to turn to understand the magnificence of the creator than have a glimpse of the creation. Every little thing screams glory, beauty and awe. There has never been a day when nature has been out of step. From eternity past, it has wowed us with its perfection and unimaginable intricacies. For me this has been a constant reminder of ‘The Supreme God’ whose eyes are constantly looking over me.

Reading the later chapters of the book of Job, one gets to understand this one true, all- powerful and all-knowing God who is the reason for existence of everything created. But what amazes me is this great God’s heart. This mighty God known as Elohim, YWHW, Adonai, El Shaddai, Jehovah Jireh, names that pronounce his might and supremacy would fashion us in His image and give us a mind of our own.

Give man a little power, he does everything possible to make life bow down to him. But here is a God who holds the heavens in His hands and yet gives man the free will and a free rein to see, perceive and make a choice to fall back in line with his purpose. When he could’ve just programed` us to love and obey Him, there He is, having given us a heart of flesh and free will, He waits for us to turn to Him. And we in turn, run in the opposite to the farthest until we reach the point of no-return before we cry out to Him in despair.

Free will as enticing it may seem can be equally destructive. Charles Spurgeon says, ‘Free will has carried many a soul to hell, but never a soul to heaven.’ The most powerful weapon, man’s ability to reason has been and will always be his ticket to either destination. It is only the grace of God and His life-giving word that will be the radar and compass in this journey of life. “Why then did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, also makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having.’ – C S Lewis

Love in all fullness is the one that flows unconditionally. Looking at my children, I love it when they choose to obey because they trust me and love me rather when they obey because they are forced to. If the heart of man so desires that untainted love, how much more the heart of God which is the origin of true love?

The one who put the sand to mark the boundaries for the most powerful waves, waits and longs for man to walk to him and love Him. Where does our free will lead us?
